Octopus Tentacles

Post by DK »

Can anyone suggest a way to animate a nice smooth arc like an octopus tentacle in AS WITHOUT using bones? I find bones put too many kinks in the arcs when animated.

Oh? I don't think so. The trick seems to be to have many points and many bones, and adjusting the bone strength correctly. For stuff like this I use the grid when creating the bones.

I was lazy and created just 1 shape, with the known effect in overlap.

Tip: Create 1 rectangle with the grid, then add points along the sides. Then switch off the grid, use G to select just 1 row of points, use R to rotate it just a bit. Repeat with other side: perfect tentacle.

Would'nt it be great to be able to use a line and pont motion like you can bones? You could then use the curvature tool to tweek things.
