Maybe a silly question. Physics and imported objects.

Post by Poptoogi »

I thought it would be cool to import a photoshop file into anime studio and add physics to the individual layers but when I did this, I couldn't enable physics to the layers. Is this because they are imported objects? I tried putting them into a group and even applying bones to the individual layers but it doesn't work. Any help would be appreciated!

Hey man,
I'm not sure about this at all, but my theory is physics won't work on imported raster images - even if a ball 'looks' round, its the effect of its transparency - the actual image is still squae, and if it worked at all, it would only detect the (invisible) image borders.

That's just my guess, i've not tried it - if you manage to do otherwise, post the fruits of your labour :)

That's kinda what I figured funks. I can just do some good ol fashioned keyframing of the objects but it would been so cool since my scene since it's a parody of angry birds and I had all the pieces made! Oh well, it'll still be cool!

Is there any way you could use the images as textures and see if they work in physics that way?

how about doing the physics with vector dummy objects, then using the point tracking script to attach a tracked group layer to a point which you can put your external assets into? (it won't translate roatation, but its one less thing to worry about)

at the very least you could create a guide to manually key over... or try what stephen suggested if that would work? (I dont know what sort of shapes you're working with :)

I just tested it. Import the image then trace over the outline, now just use that shape and add the image as a texture to it. In physics it will roll and bounce like it should.

Thanks guys for the suggestions! I'll try them out and see if I can't get it working!

This is one way to do it.

Import the image then trace just the outside then import the image back as a texture to the shape and you shouldn't need to do any scaling to the image and it should fit right in.

NP, I did elaborate some on this, I made the Santas 3D.
