Spilt curve tool

Hi,
I am using the split curve tool quite a lot at the moment,
but not all of the added points seem to have the same vector modifier ie smooth or peak.
Is there any way to force them to be one or the other?

while the points are selected, press 'p' for sharp points or 'm' for smooth points... i use p/m almost exclusively over the curature tool...
