Can you freeze particles?

Post by SuperSGL »

I'm using 13.5 and creating a starry night thought I could use particles to simulate this. Can't find away to freeze them though. I know there are tons of other ways I might even render out the first image and use the png for the background but was just curious if it could be done?

Yes, you just need to be sure the lifetime and any movement value are set to zero.
Here's an example and the Moho file:

Thanks! I didn't realize I had .5 in the Velocity setting

Once I read the title, I had somewhat different freezing in mind - is it possible to freeze particles once they start motion? As in interrupting a cycle by adding a keyframe.
Some moons ago I resolved it with a rendered image sequence of just the Particle layer and the last frame as a separate image.

If you wanted the particles to slow to a stop, ensure the 'acceleration' is directed in the opposite direction of the 'initial velocity' value, then swap to your screencap before they reverse direction.

Thanks. That's a very neat approach.
Initially, I tried to mimic a "spill", as if some amount of particles were spilt and remained on the surface. Your approach seems more convincing.
