How do I turn a body with arms and legs?

Post by Transmitter »

Hi :)

I´ve just done a few little animations, now I want to see, if I can handle a character animation.
I want a character, wich moves / dances / jumps and turns in my szene.
Now the problem: How can I make the character turn round?

I have a bone layer with switch layers for both arms and legs in it.
Now the character should go to the left, jump, turn round and go to the right.
But then, the LeftArm layer ist still above the RightArm layer, so my character looks like as if it needs a hospital :-/

Here is my layer setup:

Is there anything wrong, or how could I do something like turns with arms and legs?

the best thing to do is this:

set up at least 4 OR better 8 character views:
1. front view
2. side view right
3. side view left
4. back view
(additional setups, make the turn smoother)
5. 45° right forward
6. 45° left forward
7. 45° back right
8. 45° back left

then u can turn visibility on or off at any frame.

thats similar to how I setup my character cause actually, if your character is vector based U CAN NOT TURN it in 3d.

If import your character as .obj u can rotate/turn him in 3d.

I hope i could help, cheers 8)

BTW: Transmitter r u german? cause i think i can see "Kopf" on your screenshot

And the views should be a group layer, and in the group layers I have to do bone everything and put everything in a switch layer?
So .. my layers are correct setup, now I need 7 more views?

Example: U want the charcter to turn from front to left.

Possibility 1:

the character should look like this:
grouplayer="Man (front view)"
then put anything u NEED to animate it (switch layers, other groups, bones, everything u need) in there.
Now u can turn visibility in the timebar on or off.

Turn off the vivibility of the "Front View Character",
and turn it on in the "45° left Charcter" another frame later,
then some frames later finally turn off the "45° left Character"
and turn the "Left side Character" on.

Possibility 2:
(faster, but in some cases BUGGY)
Group all Characters under a switchlayer where u can select the different setups at every frame u wish and turn them on or off.
(this caused MANY Problems in some cases on my PC, especially with lipsync, but u should give it a try)

Now your Character should have made a 90° turn.

No matter which method u choose:

Some example files here:

here is an example of how the characters r meant to be setup (even if they look gay, it shows the principle  ) :

and here is the animation of the turn:

in this animation only a 2 frame turn (that means each perspective is being shown for 2 seconds before it gets switched) is used but u will have to find out the perfect speed yourself, according to your style.
