It seems like a very flexible technique, especially using the top layer to add any frame by frame stuff that might be needed. I definitely hope you include this technique in your character animation tutorials. There would have to be some tricks on how best to construct the head and limbs so they can be reshaped to form all of the the different views.

Yes it is a very flexible technique so far, now I need to put it through a actual project.

I am finishing a basic scripting tutorial right now, then I will start working on one!

Ok, done with the scripting tutorial, now I will start working on a frame by frame project.

Anyone has suggestions as to what might be good to illustrate the process as I described it?

Hmm, that Disney scene was pretty perfect since it was just the head and torso, but with full 180 degree freedom of movement from one side to the other. It also had a full head turn from front to side, and featured nice flowing changes in her expression and pose. My suggestion would be something as similar as possible, but just different enough so you don't get sued :D.

With regards to the actual tutorial, I guess it could be in 2 parts. The first part could deal with how best to construct a character so that it is possible to easily reshape them into the different key poses. The second part would be how you actually go about creating each keyframe for the character.

Nice work, Gilles.

As for a tutorial, why don't you try it with the character your working on now?
The shaolin master?

No infringing copyright then!

Rudiger, yeah, I was juggling with the idea of making a video set on doing frame by frame animation only, using an enhanced technique like this one, several hours of video fun. :)

I was thinking of a nice character dancing perhaps, just to workout a definitive workflow before I dwell into the video set.

Patmals, thanks, I thought of the Shaolin Master, but I find him bland a bit, maybe something more colorful and with more drapery.
