Script idea - menu: import-pencil-2-switch

Post by funksmaname »

Hey,
So, i've been trying to find a way to sketch pencils before doing the AS stuff on top. Ramon's lost pencil tool is great, but i've not really figured it out yet (i can't get onionskinning to work). So I created a sketch animation in PAP (which is now free - http://plasticanimationpaper.dk/) which is great.

When I export from PAP I can export as PNG frames, and tell it not to select the clones, so for timing it names like this:

librarian0001.png
librarian0013.png
librarian0025.png
...etc

where thenumber relates to the intended frame switch.

Would it be possible to script an 'import to switch' which lets you choose the first drawing in a sequence, and then it imports all frames into a switch layer and automatically places switches at the right frames based on the frame number? That would save loads of work!

as an aside, unfortunately PAP doesn't export PNGs with alpha, so you have to change the layer to multiply (which could be done automatically by the script on a tick maybe?) - strangely though, as pointed out by selgin elsewhere (bugs) the blending modes only work on a solid background in AS otherwise you get a big black area...

Anyway - would be keen to here scripters thoughts on this... perhaps it could even have an 'update' button to go with it so if new frames are added later they are automatically inserted when you run the button?

Thanks for listening ;)

I think it's definitely possible. I think there already is a script that can import images to a switch so the next step would be to parse the numbers in the file name and place the keys. And setting blending mode would be easy.

I'd try it myself if I didn't have a deadline looming.

What about Fazeks exposure sheet tool? search for fa_switch_xsh, I think you can rearrange the count of frames per image inside the exposure sheet so it might help you, however I don't think the tool reads the numbered ending of each image, it only sorts them.

I've created a few scripts that let's me do this. I often import image sequences into ASpro.
Importing a batch of files into as (directly into switch layers is an option);
http://rylanderanimation.se/2009/03/17/ ... udio-file/
there are of course other ways to batch import images into AS like other scripts or drag/drop.

Distribute the content of a switch folder onto the timeline;
http://rylanderanimation.se/2008/10/10/loop-switch/
(You could also distribute the images randomly using this script; http://rylanderanimation.se/2006/02/06/random-switch/)

Hey Rylander - I've seen and used your scripts before - they are very handy! but what this does is distributes imported images on the timeline with a switch on the frame number at the end of the file name, not a fixed (or random) period like your scripts...

Your kidding me? There are other sections on this forum that I have no access to that could help me develop my skills in Anime Studio??? Thats a joke isn't it?

I can understand moderator sections but not useful information.

(By the way this post is as much about trying to get to 50 stupid posts as moaning about not having access to all the information. ) ;)

I guess I better start spamming the forums with. posts like Cool stuff and Wow thats nice and Could do better. :D

Crazy

No, not on this forum. This one: http://animatorsforum.com/
It was started by people who used to frequent this forum but decided to start their own, so it is not run by Smith Micro.

Ah right. Need to move over there. Still it is a shame that that part needs so many posts to see. I am guessing it has the stuff I really need to see.

Cheers

50 posts isn't that much if you are invested in being part of the community - and recently that section has really come to life with some amazing scripts!

bear in mind that access to the vip section is discressionary (50 is a guide but you might get in before or not at all depending on how spammy you are just to get in there!)
