Blend Morph vs translate point and switch layers

Post by kellz5460 »

I've seen a couple blend morph head turns and other things, done right they can create a nice 3D effect

personally I haven't used blendmorphs at all as they're not much different than just translating the points further down the timeline. Am I missing something? The main reason I don't use blend morphs is because say- I want to move a head from front to profile view, but the profile view has different points

I wish I could blend morph between groups on a switch layer

Is this possible to blend morph between groups instead of a layer? I'm not sure it is
OMG make it stop!

blending actions really comes into its own when a) you re-use a character a lot, b) you want to MIX several actions (left + up + happy) without having to do point motion over and over - you just set up single keyframe actions which you can then use as morph targets.

I wouldn't reccomend using 'blend morphs' that come with AS really as they don't mix the points from frame 0 so if you create an up (centered) and a left, it won't make your character look up and left, it will pull it somewhere in between.

If you're interested, look into Rudiger's morph dials script.

What you might do is have a mix of actions that control two layers of a switch group to try to blend them, and then do a manual switch between the two layers (if that makes sense)

if you are quick at using point motion and have no interest in setting up re-usable and mixable actions, point motion will probably get you to where you want to be quicker. It's just if you create a library of actions for a character you can always re-use and mix them.

Thanks alot- it seems I'm sort of stuck where I am in terms of using this program

mostly just using switch layers and point motion

Just there you get more power then most other application out there.

Blend morph also allows to blend several shapes, to a point. It is pretty good as is, but still needs work.

Rudiger Dial script sounds more and more interesting for this kind of setup!
