Popup Book Effect

Post by Shanty Baba »

I am trying to do a popup book effect...rotating a background image layer in the X axis from -90 to 0. What I want at the end are the decreasing oscillations around the 0 position as it gently comes to rest.

I have tried to relicate this using keyframes and the result is passable, but can I use either bone dynamics or layer physics to achieve a quicker and better looking result.

Cheers,
Shanty

Hey Shanty, take a look in the help manual at the motion graph. I think this might be what you need. There is also a simple tutorial on motion curves in there that might also help.

I think the best way to do that gently movement is by hand using the graph mode.
If you are in AS8, you can check this example

If you haven't AS8, you can check the graph in this image

the values I choose are pretty arbitrary, so don't think it's based on a law or something. Just be sure the wave be decreasing until get zero.

It's ok. I'm too slow to answer and two replies are better than one. Even more when they complement each other

Jonbo and Selgin,

Thanks for the quick replies...the motion graph...off course. I always love it when an excellent solution is right in front of your eyes, and one that gives a great result.

Thanks again.

Well, I do stuff like that by hand (without any motion graphs), and it looks quite the same. As a rule of thumb: any movement in the range of just some frames is not worth to open any curve editor for.

Pop-up book effect: don't forget to set the origin point correctly as the layers will be rotated around it.

Slowtiger,

Point of origin for rotation. You are right. That was my first mistake.

For me, Jonbo and Selgin's help with the motion graph was great as a novice. But I appreaciate what you say. "The eye of the expert" is what I call it.

I know from previous posts that you are are fan of Victorian woodcut/ cutouts, and althought I didn't post at the time, thank you for your input, thoughts and bringing that type of animation to the attention of the forum and me in particular.

Cheers,
Shanty

*bows* No need to thank me for that, I'm just boasting my work like any other boy around ...

I just remembered that I did a test for "folding" images: viewtopic.php?t=13094 with the video here http://www.slowtiger.de/examples/fold.html.
