Mike's Life Scene 1

Post by Nephilim »

Hey guys,

This is an update on my original "Bobbysworld" animation. But I have changed the name to Mike's Life since Mike is the main character and Bobby is just the younger brother. This is the complete first scene to this animation. I have pretty much completed the entire animation part to the whole thing but adding the voice and lip synch will take a while for the rest of it. Please post your comments and critique on this topic.

Thanks to all who respond

Ok, check it:

In your scene where the bus ENTERS screen right and moves to SCREEN LEFT - that's fine...then, it correctly enters SCREEN LEFT (Entering from screen left and exiting screen right would be better, a stronger movement, like you read a book left to right? If you have the bus moving left to right, it's stronger...up to you whether you believe this is so)

Anyway, the bus leaves screen LEFT. In the very next shot, where the sun is setting, it looks as though the bus is suddenly moving LEFT to RIGHT. This is a continuity problem. You should keep the bus moving in one screen direction constantly, and not cross the 'action axis'. This is from a book called THE 5 C'S of CINEMATOGRAPHY by J. Mascelli. (cool book).

Anyway, you can cross the action axis if it's in the same shot, like a train winding left to right to left snake action, as long as it keeps on entering the scrren on direction and exiting the same direction.

So, perhaps move the CLOUDS in your sunset scene in the opposite direction? This would help create the illusion that the bus is still moving LEFT to RIGHT.

-BUT- the shot you have them sitting in the bus is facing screen right.

What I'd do is simply have the bus enter screen LEFT and exit SCREEN RIGHT in the first shot. Then you don't have to touch the other 2 scenes, and they both make sense.

Cheers

I aggree with Mikdog, the bus movement is very apparent, and it needs to be changed (that's what friends are for). Good job on the rest of it though, wish I was as far down the road with my learning curve :)

Keep it up, and let's see the end result.

Thanks for pointing that out guys. I didn't think it was that important but now that you both commented on it, I'm sure it is. I'll probably just change the first part so that the bus comes from the left side instead of the right side. I'm making good progress on the rest and will post a rough draft of the whole thing soon. More comments are still welcome though.
