Compound bone head rig download

Post by heyvern »

This is a file I put together for you people to play with.

Zip file:

It is a work in progress. It isn't "perfect" by any means but it gives the general idea of what I'm up to from this thread:
http://www.lostmarble.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7706

The zip contains a folder of images for the bone labels I put in the file. If it isn't clear from the descriptions I will try to do a better description.

Turn HIDE CONTROLLED BONES on in the timeline. Otherwise you will just go insane. ;)
The main bone to move around is the "head turn" bone. This bone will turn the head in all directions. Don't push it too far or it just looks awful. You will see the limits. Pushing the head up makes her look sort of like an old lady I plan to fix some of these issues as I go along.

At this point I have no other instructions on how to set up your own character. I am still streamlining this thing and I may be able to cut down on some of the bones.

You can basically see on frame 0 how the bones effect everything. I didn't finish naming all the bones (I kept making changes). Will update this as I go along.

One big change I plan... the eyes. There is no way to do big eyes very well using only translation. I would like to have a better scaling of the eyes as they turn towards the back of the head. Unfortunately since the other eye will stretch it looks odd.

I plan to use rotation and scaling (a cooollll trick from Genete) to do this. Rotation causes a bone to move but if I limit the rotation on certain bones the eyes can scale much better.

Ooops I don't remember a trick about rotation and scaling... Could you refresh my mind, please? (I'm a little "hard" today...)

PS: Could you check the "labels" file?. It have 0 bytes in my download.
EDITED: Fixed. There were a problem of zip compatibility. Now I have labels.

That was weird!

Somehow an empty file got stuck in with the same name as the labels folder. The images are in a folder. I uploaded a new one.

I was talking about those cool springs you did a few days ago. That concept I think will work for what I have in mind. Since I can limit rotation but NOT translation I could jury rig that so the eye on the far side of the head "shrinks" but the other eye doesn't stretch.

This will make the rig even easier since the head turn from side to side can be done with rotation. Up and down will use translation... uh... I hope. I haven't worked out the details yet. ;)

With my spring mechanism you can go from left to right and after from right to left only rotating one bone!!! Nowyou can pull and push things and the will go to their corrct positions!!!!

Hu!, hu! I did'nt think about it before!!!!!

Yeeeeeaaaaaaahhhhh!!!

Waiting your result master!!

Heyvern, you are as generous as you are clever! (If someone said that to me, it would probably be an insult, but in your case it is positive feedback!). You are the bone daddy!
You can't have everything. Where would you put it?

Por aquí se dice así: "Qué mamón!" o "Qué cabrón" y se considera un elogio (por que al que lo dice le da envidia)

Sorry but I can not translate this because it is local speaking...
