I’m animating a scene where two characters are hugging. To manage foreground/background occlusion, I created a Reference Layer from a fully rigged Original Layer (e.g., Character A’s hand in front of B, while A’s head goes behind B). Their motion needs to remain perfectly synchronized.
Occasionally, I inadvertently set bone keyframes on the Reference Layer, and from that point the Reference stops following the Original—even if I delete those unintended keys.
What I’ve tried
Update Layer Reference → no change.
Sync All Channels to Original → restores the pose, but clears the Reference Layer’s own layer-level keys (e.g., Visibility) that I still need for occlusion.
Question
Is there a way to re-sync the Reference Layer’s bones to the Original while preserving other keys on the Reference (such as Visibility or other Layer Settings)? If not, I’d be grateful for any recommended workflow to avoid desync yet keep separate layer-level controls for occlusion.

Many thanks in advance for any guidance!
