Question about bone parenting in tutorial 3.4

Post by writerhoward »

In this Character Setup tutorial, after you've split apart the body parts you're directed to "Next, add two bones to each arm, starting at the shoulder and going down - the shoulder bone should be parented to the upper torso bone."

Given that the shoulder is apart from the torso, how do you parent the shoulder bone to the upper torso bone?

A bone can be parented to any other bone regardless of its position.

So... just select the torso bone and click the "add bone" key and draw a new bone anywhere you like.

It doesn't have to be touching it.

Later in the tutorial you will use the "offset bone" tool to move the arms and other bone chains back into position.

When you animate after frame 0 the offset is used to position those bones.
