Smart Bone problem

Post by Hoptoad »

I’ve been learning how to use smart bones.

My character’s left arm works great. The smart bone causes a wrinkle to appear when the arm bends and moves some points around to create an elbow. Very nice.

For some reason, the right arm has a problem. I used the same process when I smart-boned the left arm, so I am bewildered.

When I am in the Actions environment, scrubbing the time slider, the bending appears perfect. All the points go where I want them to: the bending arm creates a wrinkle and an elbow. HOWEVER...when I return to “Mainline” and test the bone via the Manipulate Bone Tool, a few points in the arm no longer work. Most of the points move like they should, but some don’t move. This, of course, wrecks the bending of the arm.

What did I do that caused this problem? How can I fix it?

In summation, the “R forearm” Action works great in the Action environment, but not in the primary workspace.

By the way, my bone rigs are layers of vector art. I employ mostly point binding and some occasional layer binding. I’m using Moho 12.5. My computer, where I animate, is off the internet presently, so I’m sending this from my tablet and cannot attach an image. I’ve checked for errors due to point binding, and bad key frames, but didn’t find anything out of the ordinary.

Thanks.

Make sure the problem points are not keyframed in another smart bone action and definitely do have selected (red channel) keyframes in the desired smart bone action.

I checked and re-checked, and apparently the points are not keyframed in another smart bone action. Unless I somehow missed something. Apparently there is something called negative key frames, but I don’t know anything about that.

No other smart bone causes the bad points to move.

I’m not 100% sure what the second part of your statement means, but I think I did it nonetheless. The “selected point motion” key frames all appear to work fine in the action, at any rate.

The problem persists. The arm works in the action timeline, but a few points don’t behave properly in the mainline timeline.

Thanks for your help. I would delete the action and start over, but I’d really like to know what the problem is.

You'll probably need to post or PM me a link to the file if you want to know the exact problem.

In your F forearm smart bone action, the point motion channel on you R arm layer is muted. So outside of action editing, Moho thinks you want to hide that animation.

Fixed!

Thank you, synthsin75.

I didn't know "mute channel" was a thing until now. Somehow it flew under my radar.
