Render vs Preview? And gradient problems.

1 - I can't find the definition of RENDER and PREVIEW, in the file menu.
RENDER shows my gradients.
PREVIEW doesn't show gradients.
F5 doesn't show gradients either.
But when you EXPORT, the gradients are there. Confusing.


2 - Second, I'm supposed to press spacebar when applying a color style, but that is also the key for playback. It's annoying to trigger movie playback when I want to apply color.

#1 - in the manual, check the User Interface chapter, under Menus, for an explanation of all except F5, which is a recent feature for quickly previewing animation timing at full playback speed.

#2 - (based on Windows PCs) On frame 0, the spacebar does not start playback. On any frame, when the Create Shape tool is selected to create a new fill shape, the spacebar also does not start playback.

You are possibly pressing spacebar when you don't need to:
If you are using the Select Shape tool to change an existing shape colour, you do not need to press the spacebar, nor do you need to press the spacebar when applying a Style (to an existing fill) from the drop-down list.
