Create hair that overlaps the eyes with transparency

Post by HollyToto1998 »

Hello all, I am trying to animate Star, from the Disney television series Star vs The Forces of Evil. I just have one slight problem. I can't seem to get the hair to overlap the eyes, but when it does- I'd like it to show the eye underneath, with just a little bit of transparency. Here is a picture of her hair, Image and I know a little about masking. I can mask mouths and eyes pretty well. I have never tried to do this and I can't seem to find any tutorials on google.

I am not sure if this is correct- but I did manage to get the transparency. What I did was I created an eye mask, and 2 bangs masks. I put them into 1 group. The I proceeded to put the eye mask in between both of the bangs, and set the top bangs transparency to 50%. Both the eyes and the bangs beneath the eyes are set to "add to mask" and the top bangs is set to "don't mask this layer".

Does this sound like it will be too much trouble to animate? If so, is there an easier way to achieve the effect? Let me know if there is any missing info that I can provide to help solve my problem. Thank you :D

If you put the bangs layer right above the eyes layer, you can set the bangs blend mode to multiply to show the eye strokes through the bangs. To isolate other things like the face from showing through the bangs, group these two layers, set the group mask to hide all, with both layers added to the mask.

You'll have to render (ctrl+R) to see the actual results.
