Playback Lag?
Hey everybody, I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this general problem. I'm noticing that playback in the GUI, even for simple animations averages 6 fps. Shouldn't it be showing me all 24 (since that's what I've got set up?). My system should be fast enough. If you look in the top right corner of Anime Studio Pro you can see what frame rate is playing back. Mine will start at 24 and then crash down to 6.
All in all, this means choppy playback. I've been turning off and on display settings, and even at preview mode, I mostly I see no change. Anybody have answers for this or should I continue to render previews all the time to be able to tell if I animated correctly?
Thanks,

Re: Playback Lag?
Here the Crustacea scene, which is very heavy, runs at 6 fps, the Quick and the dead scene runs at 14 fps, the tree of life, a simple scene, runs at 24 fps.

Re: Playback Lag?
Once a upon a time their was a program call Cakewalk and it would freeze the video on computers. But because it was a multitrack recording the sound would play back flawlessly. The audio was way more important than the video.
In Anime Studio your going to run out of computer power very quickly as with any animation program. That why I use frame skipping in the previews. It give me something close to the timing I will see in final render. Sometimes I will render only one character in a scene. I have used multiple renders and then composite them in a video editor. What ever it takes.
So it not your computer, it's everyone's.

Re: Playback Lag?
Hey rydirector, I wanted to chime in on this as well. My specs on my machine are pretty beefy and I'm getting some lag as well. I even noticed opening the program and getting one of the default animations loaded does the same thing. At first when I saved my old file into AS 11, everything seemed fine. Seems like the next time I opened it, things were laggy. That was one bug I noticed as well as when I went to render that scene at 1920x1080, it crashed but didn't crash at 1280x720. I've opened a ticket up with support and they are aware of the problem. I just wanted to let you know the same thing was happening to me. This same animation played fine in the version before with no lag. I even tested a more simple animation I had done in version 10 and got the same result. I did restart and that doesn't fix it.

Re: Playback Lag?
It seems as if disabling the GPU and the hardware acceleration of the import/export seem to have fixed some of my lagging issues. I did put my quality settings on medium as well. I don't recall having to do this before. Would a geforce card work better for Anime Studio Pro over my Quadro 4000?
Thanks for any advice.

Re: Playback Lag?
That could be a possibility. I don't want to ask the obvious but you do have the GPU acceleration enabled in the display settings at the bottom on the preview window?digitalhyper wrote:It seems as if disabling the GPU and the hardware acceleration of the import/export seem to have fixed some of my lagging issues. Sometimes disabling any dynamics in the 'Animation' menu helps.
I did that crustacea on an ancient i5 with a gtx560 and I was astonished at how well it was handling it, that's why I went so far with it.
I was told once by a advanced computer animation wizzkid, that putting a gtx driver on a quadro was better than a quadro..... I have never tried it... but maybe it's the driver not the hardware?

Re: Playback Lag?
Hey Chucky,
Thanks for the reply, well, I didn't even notice that until you said something. Actually it has a check mark on it, but it's greyed out to where I can't change it. I haven't tried a gtx driver with my quadro card. I enjoy the performance I get in 3DS Max with that, but doesn't seem to have cuda power like some geforce cards to help with After Effects. I guess off the top of my mind I was thinking if I had a card that helped AE perform well, then it would probably help AS Pro. I let support know what I did and waiting to hear back from them. Will update you once I hear something back.

Re: Playback Lag?
Just noticed after turning it back on under preferences, the GPU check box wasn't greyed out anymore. I guess you can enable it and just disable it under previews.

Excellent, did that help performance? I hope so.

Re: Playback Lag?
Yes, it seem to be fine. Now at home on my laptop, everything is turned on and I open the same scene with no problems. Playback is even better. The specs on that machine are a lot lower than the one at my office. So, it's more fun to run AS on that laptop. It's a Boxx laptop, but I got it several years ago.

Re: Playback Lag?
Guys,
I'm still seeing a playback lag. No matter if I have playback settings set to preview and/or playback set to high, I still max out @ 9 fps. Here's my newest computer info:
imac 3.5 ghz
24gb memory
This goes for the packaged animations as well. I've seen Victor's playback max at 24 fps for simple animations on a win machine, so I'm a bit confused still. Answers?

Re: Playback Lag?
Did you try menu/ Animation... enable frame skipping?

Yes, it's on. I've also noticed that the tree of life animation gets up to 12 fps. My graphics card is a:
