So I'm wasting precious time troubleshooting the pb. I just tried reducing stroke size and readjusting with line width. While I hold the mouse, the stroke element is clean to the size I need (up to a point), and when I release, it gets back to being disgusting.
Looks like you're using the new multi-brush effect. Go into your brushes file and check to make certain that the images that make up your grass brush are all the same height and width.
I see! that's what it was. Thanks a lot DKw, you saved the day.
In your opinion, if I rescale them and reopen asp. Will they update automatically in my current project? I've used them in many scenes so I don't want to mess things up.
Also I noticed only 3 are allowed. I should take some out of the folder right?
Yes, they'll update on their own as long as you use the same folder. Also, you can use as many brushes as you want in the folder (as far as I'm aware).
Well, I wouldn't jump to conclusions yet. Just check and see if it works, if not you'll have to try another strategy. I'd suggest making the stroke for the grass a little thicker if the first suggestions doesn't pan out. The dev team has been messing around with a new rendering feature that makes imported brushes smooth during render and it might be giving you problems here.
Ok so I did that. redrew my grass, with 5 of stroke non random width.
Prepared my pngs of the same size (150x522)
but reopening my project, it looks like they got stretched horizontally
So I reduced the width of each brush elements. no improvement.
So I'm guessing asp tries to compensate for images that are too small in width. So instead I'll try to make larger pngs by leaving empty space on each sides of my grass things. I'll let you know
Well actually dkw or anyone else, while i'm at it I have another question.
Why is the stroke brush not fully opaque when we select the option to tint it by selected stroke color? That's rather annoying. I'm having to color correct the source instead.

thanks
I wanted to say that you can just create a new vector layer, mask it to the line and then set the layer to a color or hue blend mode ... but it doesn't appear to work. I went ahead and created a bug thread for this little issue, so hopefully it'll be addressed in a future update. Until then, you'll have to change brush color manually.
You're going to want to have the images Square, they won't stretch if you just make sure they are all something like 128x128 pixels. or 256x256
As far as tint It goes by how you have saved your png. I can't recall just this second on which is which, but do this.
When you save the images at a square size and you export from something like photoshop, make sure one has the transparency around the grass.
Now on the second one, save it with a white background. One of them is going to let you change the color based on your stroke color and one is not.

cool. So same thing for multibrush. Say I have 3 elements, i put 6 picture in the folder with 3 being on white BG, all pngs. How about naming the images? Doesn't matter?
I'll try that. Thanks a lot That just was the final touch to make this tool perfect.

The naming of the pngs in the multi-brush folder doesn't matter so much, but I would name them something unique.
The folder naming is going to be important for the settings of the brush. Don't use an underscore in name of brush as it starts after name to divide the settings.

BrushName_(Align Brush with Curve 0/1)_(Brush Jitter Angle 0-360)_(Brush Spacing -percent value)_(minimize frame to frame randomness 0/1)_(Tint Brush Using Stroke Color 0/1)_(Random Order 0/1)
The 0/1 is a toggle for Off/On = 1 is ON, 0 is OFF
hope that helps some.
