The Ageless: Fall of Vigil (Demo)

Post by eric1223 »

Hi.

I've been working on this project Called "The Ageless: Fall of Vigil" for about three years now. Now I'm just getting to the animation portion, and here's a very short clip of it.

Since it's a long animation (a little over 30 minutes I think...This is just the first episode) I'm guessing it will take about a year or so until it gets done. That is, if nothing goes wrong.

Short indeed, but it's good to get in there and get going on the animation. The quick glimpse of the hand drawing was interesting.

The embed link didn't work. This may do the trick:

I liked the hand-drawn scenery best, especially the trees. The character's head-turn was excellent.

If you like, you can see that whole storyboard for that scene. I would post it here, but it wasn't done in AS. It's on my youtube channel. Thanks for the compliment!

I watched the video, couldn't find out which software you used for the designs, I thought they were scanned or photographed hand drawings. Other contributors mention if they use other software in their productions, and I don't think the administrators have a problem with that.

I noticed you had a tutorial on doing some really hard nerdy stuff with Synfig (motion tracking). It's an interesting software project, but it takes complicated workarounds like that for stuff that's fairly easy in AS.

So far your work doesn't seem to fit the "throw-up" label one bit.

I used Pencil. If you're not familar with it, its a free animation program that lets you animate frame by frame. Its buggy, but I think its best used for Storyboards and animatics. http://www.pencil2d.org/ I recommend the night build.

Yeah, that was before I had AS. Motion tracking is much easier here than in Synfig. IMO, both are very good (though synfig has a very steep learning curve). I'm going to keep both because each one of them have features that the other can't do.

Lol the name. I used that name so that it can be easily remembered. No one would be able to forget it easily. After reading what you said about the my work, I'm thinking about changing it to something else so people won't assume that I do vomit work lol. Thanks for the comp!

Eric, there's a forum on "other software" here on Lost Marble. Lots of us are interested in alternatives or software to do other tasks. I tried the new 2D Pencil because the old version didn't work, lost patience because the copy, paste and move around functions were just as defective. I do better with old-fashioned real pencil and paper, although I'm not very good at drawing, then scanning into a photo editing program. Of course personal preferences are different.

Anyway, as a "double user" (I guess triple user) you would have something to contribute, we'd be interested in what tasks you do outside of AS and what AS does better than others. I was impressed by the drawing tools in Synfig and the amount of control it seems to offer over each tiny action on the timeline, but could only render in individual frames, AS is so much easier for the non-nerds.

Finding the right name can be fun, you might jot down two pages of ideas and be ready to give up, and then the right inspiration arrives, seemingly out of nowhere. Good luck.

I made it a little bit further, but I only took out a short clip. This is the ending of his rant about his soldiers, and Blake is tired of it. Weather it be in or out of context, it probably makes no sense.

I won't be bothering this thread anymore about demos. The next time u see this, it will be finished (probably next year).

Looks professional. The new name is cool. Look forward to seeing the project when it's completed.

On the first one... Nice sun blur in beginning reminded my of some Clint Eastwood movie openings! :-) Great job on taking the time to layer the scene so distance perspective is in effect and far objects move slower than near objects which makes the scene come alive visually. I like your art style and the whole traveling stranger on lonely path look and how you move the camera to keep the viewer interested. You generate a curiosity in what is about to happen which is critical to a good story. Small nits... I might have had the character throw shadow like the trees, and the "holes" (space between branches?) on the one tree on the right (holes are also reflected in its shadow) seemed to stand out a little too much for me.

I like your drawing for setting up this scene to me this implies you work hard on details but always stay focused on final scene and it's overall impact.

On demo2 I liked everything especially the ranting of the character, his sarcastic mimic about how "they'll let anyone in..." you had me smiling on that one, and your excellent use of shadow, shadow being another thing I think (like near/far perspective) that can really bring a scene to life. Please do whatever it takes to finish some episodes cuz I want to see them. Good luck!

very nice, I mostly watch videos here without sound, so I'm very focused on the visuals, and I was captivated, keen to see more, loved the body turns - very nice work and smooth work :)
