New Paint Bucket tool

Post by OlgaI »

Hi, I'm a noob and it's my first post :)
well, I bought the ver.10 and while I love the smart bones, smooth joints, eraser and tabs, I am very much disappointed with the paint bucket. It was a bit of a pain ti use it before and I had great hopes for the enhanced tool but now it seems to be completely useless for me. First, though it doesn't require points to be welded, it still requires splines to overlap - which one can hardly see and make sure of when drawing, because of the stroke width. So, while before I had to manually weld points, now I have to manually cross splines AND cut and hide loose end. Doesn't feel like improvement, really.
But the main problem is that when you fill in an enclosed area it creates a new shape of about gazillion points, independent of the enclosing splines. It may be useful sometimes but in general case it is unnecessary and makes editing a nightmare. Also, the shape and the enclosing splines bend and distort differently when attached to bones and break the artwork. Is there any way to make the tool create ONE form consisting of a spline and filled area inside or at least group the shape and the splines automatically so they behave as one when edited? BTW, shape grouping would be a good idea for future upgrades.
Also, perhaps people here see more use of this tool, please share your hints.

If you weld points and make an enclosed shape the paint bucket tool has the same behavior as it did before.
I like the new feature for doing Frame by Frame. It comes in handy for fills that wouldn't work before.

thank you Dale. For filling closed splines I use the Create Shape tool, it does the same.

HUH? I been a user of Moho or Anime Studio for a long time and you lost me. The Create Shape tool doesn't fill shapes that have unconnected lines.

Look, try this. Make a switch layer with a smart bone action that switches between layers. So on frame one you will be at layer 1 then at frame 6 you will be switch to layer 2 and on frame 12 the bone will be turned so that it will be pointing to layer 3 and so on for 6 to 8 layers. Remember don't go back to the main line, this should be all done in an action time line. Next apply onionskins to the switch layer. With the onionskins applied, draw on each of the vector layers, moving back to the switch layer to go down the time line. So now you will get a FBF switch layer where you move the bone in the mainline and it will page through each of the layers. NOT. I'm not going to explain why this will not work here, but if you join the webinar I will be showing everyone how to do this.

And how the new paint bucket tool is so dam useful in this setup for FBF.

I said I use the Shape tool to fill the closed (welded) lines - because you wrote that the Paint bucket works as it used to on these objects. What I mean, I already have a tool for that task. And for filling other, unclosed (unwelded) forms it is virtually useless for me due to the issues I described in the original posting.
Looking forward to the webinar, I will love to learn the tips :)

I too cannot figure out the use of having the paint tool adding these annoying points. Any clear explanation is welcome.
