Quicktime is not a codec but a framework. No, at the moment there's no substitute.

If you really need a replacement I have found that the lossless avi codec (which importantly supports alpha) is one called lagarith.
If you really can't use QT then give that a go.
The switch to 32bit function in AS is pretty good which will get you through a QT render otherwise until another solution is found.
