Hello world, I am new to anime studio. I decided to take the plunge and I am part excited and part pessimistic (mostly with my own skill level), but mostly enthusiastic about learning AS. Now I have AS8 and eventually I would like to create 10 minute cartoons and half hour cartoons (perhaps thinking way down the line), but I have been hearing daunting stories about file sizes when it is all said and done and it could end up in the gigabytes arena is this correct?
I would like to eventually be able to put my work online so I am a little concerned with the possibility of uploading that huge a file online and asking viewers to download it off of it. Is this the way it is going to be, or are there ways to get around this? I hope I am not ready things correctly. Can someone give me a good idea of how a finish product would be like in terms of file size, and how it can end up for viewership? For instance, can the same project be finalized for the web AND for DVD? Thanks, hope this is going to be fun!

Re: File Sizes
Depends on how you want to deliver your creations. You could set up a Youtube account and upload directly there at HD quality. Using Youtube means you don't have to worry at all about downloads or bandwidth etc AND you can embed those videos on your own website easily. The only big limitation is the length. Most youtube accounts have a 15 minute limit, but if you keep posting and getting hits they will upgrade you to unlimited. I had applied a while back for longer video uploads and I just got upgraded! WOOHOOO! I can now put up videos on Youtube at any length.
Yes, files sizes can become quite large, even for short projects. The Anime Studio files are usually very small (relatively). Even for long animation projects I rarely have files over 20mb and most are between 5 and 10 mb, but if you are using a video editor and compositing exported animations etc etc, all of these assets can become quite big and take up a lot of space. It's after you RENDER from AS that you have to be concerned about storage space.
Also, doing video editing can fragment hard drives which can effect performance. It's best to have some kind of partition or external drive that can be de-fragged on a regular basis.
I would recommend buying a HUGE, cheap multi-terabyte drive. Those things are getting cheaper every day and you can store TRUCKLOADS of massive video content on them.

Re: File Sizes
Thanks Vern for the reply! Uploading it to youtube does seem like a great idea. I probably will start with small projects and build myself up. What video editor would you recommend for editing AS files? I own a PC. And for about a 2 minute animation, how big would the file roughly be after editing? Thanks!
