I've been using v5.6 for years and recently upgraded to 8. I have discovered that some of my favorite things are gone or consolidated or moved to a new mysterious place.
In 5.6 I really liked that you could animate the layer order if they were in a group.
It seems I can no longer move one layer up or down the order as a keyframe.
Anyone know if it is totally gone?

I think it's a two-step process:
1. On a group or bone layer, double click and go to the "depth sort" tab. There, check the box that says, "Enable animated layer order."
2. You should also check "Allow animated layer effects" in the general tab (I think).
That should allow you to rearrange layers within the group and set keyframes to that effect.
