So far I've figured out a variety of complex things I never thought I would, but one simple task eludes me: I have a kitchen backdrop, and on the walls I'd like a wallpaper pattern instead of a solid color. For the life of me I can't figure out a) how to create a pattern (I mean, I can draw one, but then what?) and b) how to tile that pattern so it looks like wallpaper.
I'm sure the solution is very simple, but I'd appreciate someone explaining it to me.
Thank you!

Like most things in AS, there a lot of ways to do this. Try selecting the points of your pattern and hitting crtl+c to copy and ctrl+v to paste , on MAC use command+c and command+v. The new copy will appear right over the original when you hit paste, so use the translate points tool to move it to the place you want. Repeat as many times as needed.
I tried that, but it didn't work well. The bitmap image completely filled the background, even though I asked it to tile it; when I shrunk the size of the .bmp, the same thing happened, but with the addition of artifacts (because a very small non-vector image was now being enlarged).sbtamu wrote:I would use an image texture.
Is it possible to change the tiling of an image texture or, conversely, to create a vector image and use *that* as an image texture?
I appreciate the first reply, but the background is so huge it would take me hours to tile the little pattern I want.
Only thing about using image textures, is the spacing of the pattern is not as controllable with the tiling option as placing them yourself.
Edit: you can reselect your copies and re-paste so that the pattern will be exponential. But using image textures, are you using the shape select tool afterwards and dragging the handle around to achieve the tiling?

A quick thought...
Hey quickib!
I see you already had your question answered but I wanted to show you a couple of other options that expand on what jonbo and sbtamu said! Check it out!
