By using Poneymasher bitmap script one can import raster images into AS very easily.

The Photoshop import makes a new layer each time, this doesn't.
Works with any program that saves over its own file. Photoshop, Gimp, MS paint, Sketchbook...
One of the biggest hassles with AS is that it is one of the most un user friendly programs I have worked with. The worst of it is that things stop working with each upgrade, once upon a time you could update an image by reloading the image. That doesn't work anymore and was more steps than this method.
I wish I could program because I would add an new button along with 'new image' would be 'next image' that would open the next number image in the file that I was working from. That way I could work with any raster program and animate an image sequence.
