Insert/remove blank frames between keyframes

Post by bil »

Hi, one feature that flash has that would be lovely for altering previously animated moho files is the ability to more easily spreadout or condense animation on the timeline.

In an ideal world, we animators recieve the soundtrack, storyboards then animate. When the animation is complete, everyone goes wow. Then you begin your next animation. Unfortunately his rarely happens the first time.

More often than not, multiple changes occure after the initial animation is complete forcing us animators to "re time" the existing keyframes. Soundtrack changes, transition deletions, basically anything beyond simple edits becomes very confusing, especially when working as a team on a project and having to pick up someone elses work and do extensive edits.

We understand all animation is hard work, and the results are worth it.

What I'm proposing is the ability to add/remove blank frames in between keyframes instead of just moving only the keyframes themselves.

All to often a client will ask us to change the length of a sequence but the actual animation stays the same. When you have multiple objects with different keyframe usage this can get real confusing over long sequences to select all keyframes and manually move them.

It would be far simpler to place the playhead on say "frame 20" and right-click and add 20 frames thereby "pushing" all future keyframes, for that oblect, forward by twenty. This technique manually applied to every animated element would save alot of weekends for family time.

There is the "rescale keyframes" option, but it is difficult to use, at best. I made a feature request for just what you're asking for a couple of months ago:

Yes I never realized how damn handy that feature was (in flash) until edits poured in from a particularly difficult client. (actualy, is there realy another "type" of client?)
