Little fish animation

Post by Rasheed »

After all that studying the last couple of days, I made a few seconds of animation of a fish, turning, thinking and dashing off.
Here is the QT DivX movie (6.7 s, 54 Kb) and the zipped Moho source (65 Kb).

Nothing fancy, just lots of fun doing it (using some of Moho's features).

i think it needs to be either a quicker turning circle, or make it smoother. One of the two, other than that, it made me giggle like a 9 year when he/she discovers swear words.

Nice nob! I liked it a lot, especially the texure on the fish, and then the seaweed/coral in the second version. Did you use an interpolated switch layer for the fish?

No, I simply designed the fish by translating the eyes +0.1 and -0.1 units along the Z-axis. The eyes rotate to face the camera, but the body and fins don't, so the eyes appear to be spherical and the other parts more flattenend. The rotation of the fish is simply a rotation along the Y-axis in 4 consecutive frames (30, 60, 150, 180). I didn't need switch layers for that.

The texture was made by exporting the vector image to an external image editor (GIMP). I used this image to create a new layer with a kind of color noise and 80% transparacy. Saved the layer as a PNG and used masking to create a textured fill. This is far more useful than the direct image texture fill effect (which is fixed, even when the shape rotates).

I especially liked the scene cut, so I could focus on the fish thinking he doesn't want to become someone's dinner.

What is it about us new guys and fish? Must be the lack of hands and feet (my first few tries were fish as well). :) It looks good and the second version is improved.
