I found this technique of creating a spinning gem by utilizing layer blending,
a radial gradient, a particle, a gemstone base shape, and a mask using the shape of the gem.
As you can see, it still needs improvement, but it's working pretty well so far.
Here's what I did:
1. found a gemstone picture, created the base gem shape from it.
2. created a cloned layer of the gem, and removed all of the inner lines until it was just the outline shape.
3. Close the shape and fill with one of the colors from the bottom part of the base gem layer, add a radial gradient to the cloned layer, make the inner part a bright green, and make the outer part transparent.
4. Put the original layer in a particle layer with these settings.
particle count: 6
particle preview count: 6
lifetime: 24 frames
sources x/y/z: 0
velocity: 4
velocity spread: 0
damping: 1
direction: 180 degrees (exact left) spread:0
acceleration: 0 degrees (exactly right) rate: 1
Move the particle layer itself over to the right, make sure that one of the particles in the middle of the particle layer lines up exactly with the cloned layer. (you may need to experiment to find the best fit.)
5. Put both layers in a group, go to layer options on that group, open masking, and change the group mask to hide all. (Make sure that the mask is under the gem in layer order.)
6. Go to the original gem's layer options, and change the blending mode to add.
7. adjust as needed.
and 8. Enjoy the sparkly gem!
Hope you can find a use for this concept.
That's all for now.
