Forum decorum

Post by chuckly »

Hello everybody, I'm new here so forgive the stupid question.
Just kidding it's me 'chucky' in a clever disguise! Bet you didn't recognise me  :P :P
So have many other people had trouble logging in?
My alter ego has been trying for weeks to get in and my new 'nomme de plume' could only get in using IE when firefox can't bust through.
I know I haven't been banned, cos i'm such a nice chap and besides it seems I'm not the only one having trouble getting into the forum.
I just want my old name back, can any moderater help?

Hi chucky,
I've not noticed any logging issue here. Maybe you lost the password and for some reason you have typed several times and your account has been blocked?
Have you checked your old email address (even the spam folder)?
I hope some moderator or administrator can restore your old user and recover all your great contributions to the forum
Cheers.

Hi Chucky,

The name porblem will be a Mike (Administrator) to fix as its beyond the moderators control panel. But I did check your IP and it confirms where I thought you were. We had a big blitz on the Chinese Video software spammers and banned 8 IP spectrums. Your IP is outside that banned band.

if it was an IP ban, IE wouldn't let you either. Can you post the error message being thrown up by FireFox - it should be listed in Tools/Error Console. Curiously, I had a PM from another member with similar issues before the IP Bar went in. So I suspect this is a browser issue and not IP bar.

Can you also post version of Firefox are you using FF2 or FF3 something: I can run this by the phpBB guys to see if there is an issue with any of the security updates - worth considering too Firefox is notorious for holding onto cache, (the sessions, cookies and JavaScripts), even if full forced refreshes are launched. if you have Opera, try that too, it helps isolate the problem.

The good thing about the IP ban has been a near total spam free site for a week. Mike was very reluctant to introduce the ban but it has been very effective. If people are innocently caught in the net, we can open little windows in the blockade and get people back on board.

(BTW: not a bug or gremlins ... I deleted the duplicate post to keep the board tidy and replies in one place).

[PS: this might be a kind of shot yourself in the foot poll - if people can't log in, how are they going to enter their vote? 8)
