Cutout-style shadows

Post by Lost Marble »

I'm not sure if this is a new tip, or if everyone knows about this. But there's a way to use layer shadows to produce outline or cutout effects.

Try turning on a layer's shadow, and settings its Offset and Blur values to 0. Then set Expansion to something like 4 or 8. Set the color to solid white or black (not transparent at all), and you can get an effect like this:

(There's actually a small, conventional shadow in this example too. I got that by putting the character inside a group layer and adding a regular shadow to the group.)

Thanks. Mike! That's a nice effect...
You can't have everything. Where would you put it?
