Paradoxical Pencil, Chapter two, Creation + Vanity.

Post by Durand »

Hello, I've made another pencil animation. I know what you're thinking,
( Not another one! He only does them because the pencil has no appendages, no mouth, no nothing!) Well kind animator, let me remind you of the many armless and legless characters in animation history. For example there was the amazing wobbling....er...errr.. the great slithering..errr um the,the....Well Ok! Just take a look at this anyway. Tell me what you think if you want? Hey you can tell me that you think it stinks if you want to. Any criticism is fine with me. It's all part of the process; Isn't it?

That was brill' Durand, I like the little touches like the shine on the pencil but it was the removed aspect and that odd reserved timing and cool sound that made it stand out.
It reminded me of Kubrick.
You like that huh?

If I was to be critical at all, and only on a "you know what would be cool' level, cos I really liked it.....If you added a quick roll rotation to the pencil just on a couple of occasions when its on the paper surface, it would really help hold that dimensional illusion and give you a place for a beat in the timing here and there.

Either way, I like stories with a point

Well I sure have to say this was absolutely brilliant....

The only issue I have, which is actually a very weird opinion, is I really don't like how the eraser was wiggling like that. It just seemed annoying to me... haha... Other than that, I really am impressed, great work, concept, idea.

If I were to make any suggestions, I would have to say that perhaps you should do very obtuse and abstract camera angles... It would have been more engaging. Also the lense flare was great, but the angle it ran across was too perfectly straight.... :)

But even if you didn't change it, and left it as is, I would still say, phenomenal work.

Once again, great work. It's always impressive when something so simple can hold your attention.

Thanks for your comments and criticism. Chucky, I am flattered by the Kubrick comparison, But I'm sure he would do a roll rotation in his grave if he heard that. Seriously though; If I were to re-edit, a little roll at the end of each drawn line is something I would definitely add.
Rpc9943, I agree that the eraser wiggle is a little over done, its comical movements are perhaps at odds with the more serious tone of the film. Maybe the music/sound could be a little lighter? Not sure.
Thankyou Synthin for the encouraging words. :)

Yeah I would personally keep it of one emotion, you would have to choose that. mixed with more stark and perspective camera angles, it would explode into something more dynamic.
