timeline locking???

why oh why does my timeline seem to 'lock up' sometimes? I can still animate, but I can't do any timeline functions. I can pick a key, but I can't delete it. I can't switch to graph mode. I can't use any of the timeline buttons.

help....

I've had some trouble in the past with other apps stealing focus from AS. It mostly showed up the onion skin markers and the main menus. Other than that, I have no idea.
