Day into night

Post by montblankdesign »

Hey fellas,
I am working on a new Donut and Banana episode, and I wanted to make the scene appear to be night time with a fire pit and flickering light. Any suggestions on layering, masking or blending modes? I was going to start with a transparent layer on top in normal mode and I realized there might be some cool technique someone might have and share.
Any one?
I do cartoons and make music. I like to make music because John K is not likely to tell me I am doing it wrong.

Well, it all depends on the mood you like to create...

Here is a very simple example:

One “night layer" black with 55 % opacity - blending mode “Hue”
One “flicker layer” white with animated opacity and size - blending mode “Normal”.

Cheers

Great tip. Just the effect I was looking for. I have not had time to experiment much with blending modes and still do not have a great handle on them.
Thanks so much.
