Adding a blur radius or a Soft edge effect to the vector layer in the particle folder would make it less sharp and more interesting IMHO.

Nice effect. It is great for me to have these examples to study as I 'peel the onion' that is AS -- especially having a file to download.

It helps me learn when I write it out.
Correct me if I am wrong as to my interpretation of this technique.

Top layer (mask folder) - hide all
> duplicate of background
> particle layer
> expanding 'ripple'
Background image

thanks - arfa

of course!
- Top layer (mask folder) - hide all
LMasked layer - duplicate of background (scaled)
Image
L+add to masked but keep invisible - any type of layer - (note dont choose + add to mask only option or else small outlines will be revealed after render).

- Original Background Image (unmasked)
