Drawing in AS6 Debut

Post by crowley »

Are the drawing tools between debut and Pro markedly different?

I can knock up a decent character in flash pretty quickly and import the parts to AS6 in PNG - but have been less than impressed with the results of animation once rigging up the entire character and manipulating the bones.

have spent hours trying to draw the flash images in AS6 Debut but the shapes come out far inferior -

was the character Thorn created in Pro and imported to Debut or was it knocked up in Debut?

If you are new to AS you have to learn and get use to the drawing tools. They are VERY MUCH different from Flash or AI or similar types of drawing applications. I don't know specifically if the characters you mentioned were drawn in AS but they very well could have been. All of my AS work is done entirely in AS. Sometimes from scratch.

The drawing tools in Debut are identical to AS Pro. Most of the differences in Debut and Pro are advanced features, like Physics, Menu scripts etc. The drawing tools are the same.

You didn't learn how to draw in Flash over night. It was a learning process over time that was probably something you don't remember. It just sort of happens. The same thing can happen using AS. It did for me. After enough use it just sort of "clicked". There isn't ANYTHING I can't draw or create in AS. It just takes time to learn the differences.

Thorn could be created on debut or pro, there is not lot of difference between drawing tools of both versions.

I think you actually don't know how to use the AS drawing tools, which is a different problem. They aren't like Flash tools, so I recommend you to study the tutorial and try doing simple figures until you get it.
I strongly recommend you this tutorial (pdf 5mb) made by Dale Hemenway, it covers all the process of creation and it's ideal for people who is just learning Anime Studio pro or debut.

If you still having any doubt, don't hesitate asking.

Hello Vern and thanks for replying -

when you say "The drawing tools in Debut are identical to AS Pro. Most of the differences in Debut and Pro are advanced features, like Physics, Menu scripts etc. The drawing tools are the same. "

That seems to contradict entirely page 208 of the manual which displays a range of differences - things called

arrow
shear points
perspective points
bend points

The Thorn character is the default girl with the sword -

I can duplicate figures similar to that style in flash quite easily but I would prefer do it in AS to do all the rigging and point manipulation for more subtle movement - my png imports weren't impressive.

- does anybody know if those tools mentioned above were needed to create her?

thanks

No, that tools are not necessary, they only make some tasks easier, but there is nothing you couldn't do by hand on debut. Actually, I almost don't use any of that specific tools.
Again, I strongly recommend you to learn drawing directly on AS. Once you get it you'll be able to draw very easily on almost any style.
