The only bones in this are in the hands and fingers. I was seeing if things would turn out much different if I went pretty much bone free. Even if a bunch of fancy scripts aren't being used, bones help stabilize everything around the torso. So, back to the usual routine.

I draw key frames on a light box and scan them with pegs taped to my scanner. Or, I draw in either Photoshop or Pencil. If I get to a point in ASP where I'm not really sure how I'm inbetweening a figure, I go back and draw another key frame. The keys are 'rough' poses, with little detail. What they do is establish position, proportion and the important contours of the body.aleXean wrote:How do you draw your characters so well in ASP? TELL ME YOUR SECRET!!!

I think it's worth linking here jwlane's previous threads where he describes his methods in detail:
America's Pop Star Penalty Round
and
America's Pop Star Penalty Round: round two!
The "secret" of good animation is there...just add talent.

Very beautiful! Thanks for sharing your technique with us. :DI draw key frames on a light box and scan them with pegs taped to my scanner. Or, I draw in either Photoshop or Pencil. Do you use Pencil? How do you can combine those two softwares?jwlane wrote:I draw key frames on a light box and scan them with pegs taped to my scanner. Or, I draw in either Photoshop or Pencil. Sorry for my bad english... Q_Q
Gratifying
It's really gratifying to read the positive words from fellow animators. In response to some posts, here is a screen grab of my work space. Note the key drawings in the layer palette. You can see how rough (quick) the blue line drawing is. In the time line you can see how the visibility of the key drawings can be changed to modify the timing. These particular keys are exported from Photoshop layers (I'm using the automatic export script that came with CS2). With Pencil, I export sequential PNG files through the normal Pencil menu. If needed, I could just import scans or camera grabs that were saved as JPEG files in a cheap camera - no paint program needed.
A former colleague told me when he was a kid he built up a 'corner' with masking tape, on a piece of glass he could backlight with an ordinary lamp. Then he registered his drawing by fitting them into that corner. He drew on the cheapest (thinnest) copy paper he could buy.
