This is a montage, not concurent shots. The greenscreen matchup at the end was for about 60 frames. The rest of that shot was just made up.

I tried to use Anime Studio Pro (ASP) on the whole thing. However, the client actually wanted scratchy looking limited movement (and yes I pitched the animated vector outline feature, which I thought looked pretty good). So, I just drew most of it. The 'singing through a porthole' scene was animated in ASP.

Those scenes are lovely. The style works very nicely with the biographical content. It must be a challenge to capture the mood of the actual events as well as the more detached mood of the narration. You unite the two really well!
