.anme turning head, blend morph, body turn, shoes, etc.

Post by Víctor Paredes »

Hello, I just want to share with you a character I have been making this last two days. It's a reunion of several techniques, like masked turning head for hiding eyes meanwhile turns, mask to get a turning mouth in any angle (which let you pass from front to profile with no problems, using the same layers), blend morph for easy turning head and turning shoes, mandcon rig for arm and other joints, dynamic bones, etc.

Anyway, as always, point animation will always improve several movements. I don't think there be a perfect rig, but at least it gives you a lot of facilities.

ok, the video
deleted (sorry, I had to delete the links, the projects became top secret so I can't share them anymore)

and the anme file (actualized)
deleted
thanks for feedback.

PD: head only turns to one side just because I needed to finish it today at morning, so I let the other side for another day.

Wow, freaking excellent (as Vern would say). This is as close to a perfect rig as you can get. Couple things to note:

1) I had to re-embed the fa_meshinstance.lua script from your other face turning rig, New improved Head Turn Technique!
(For the cara, cara.dup, boca, boca.dup layers.)

2) In the cara layer, under masking tab, it needs to have "+ Clear the mask, then add this layer to it" checked.

Works like charm! Thanks for your sharing your ideas!

I like it and by far better than anything i've done but there is something about the toons' hair moving and bouncing not in tune with the body movements. I think the hair behind his right shoulder is bouncing 2x faster than the head movement would allow.

Just imo tho i'm no expert on anything other than beer tasting
Sorry for bad animation

Ouch, sorry, I forgot the script. I will repost the file on first post with the anme, the script and the tutorial image of the head turn technique.
Thanks for the advice.

That's weird. I have the file here and it's actually checked.

You are right, sbtamu. I will work on the values of that dynamic bones. Thanks

Great looking character and the rig sounds really powerful. Thank you for sharing the file! I'm going to have to get the latest version one of these days so I can try blend morphs. :D

I think it was just me.

It's an important detail to mention nonetheless since that's the part that masks the eye and mouth on the side turn.

Wow! It's really amazing! and thank you for sharing the file. These days I am working with a new character and this is the goal I was looking for, your fantastic example is going to solve most of my problems. Can't wait to go deeper on it. A sticky tutorial would be a great helpful hand for many users.

Thank you, Uolter. I just published a Blend Morph video tutorial you can check here. If you have any comment or question about the tutorial, please ask on that thread.

Yeah! thanks for the tutorial! Forgive me now It's 5am and I'm going to watch it later. The file is also helpful because show how to rig the body parts. I found the shoulders very useful, here's what I did now (It's not very good, but I wanted to try a little bit, I have to adjust proportion too):

and about blend morphs I did this a few days ago (again just to verify how it works):

Uolter, your examples are very good. Sorry, I didn't remember the work you have posted before (I used to confuse relatively new users, but not anymore with you), it always have been very good. I think you have very clear the use of blend morph and my show/tutorial has not much to teach you .

Hehe, AmigaMan, your work is great too and your animations using blend morph are perfect... my tutorial will be a waste of time for you .
Thanks, I'm having a lot of inspiration from you, actually.

Thanks GCharb, but the design is not mine. Sorry I forgot say it on first post... It's actually a character an agency send us to make an animation test for a project (I even don't know for what exactly). It just coincided with I had the time and considered the character was perfect to apply several techniques on it.
But I'm working on several characters made by myself I hope to pass them to AS and post as sooner as possible.
