AS can be almost 3D?

I was watching a SciFi movie today and I noticed the way space looked when the spacemen moved through space in the spaceship and I was Ah Ha. I know this isn't animation but the way AS lets u layer stuff makes this almost to easy.

I wasnt doing this for shadows or anything other than seeing how it would look in HD with all the translate layers and scale layering and to learn how to use alpha layer on GIMP. I was very aware of the suns location to the moon.
