AS as a kind of Illustrator?

Post by Uolter »

I'm making a logo for a reggae band, and I was doing it in Inkscape, but because of its instability I said to myself "why don't try with AS?" and here's the result:

It's simple after completing to export as targa and use the image in vector based programs!

Great AS!

Hi, Uolter, I really love AS for vectorial stuff, but I think there are some cool options you could be missing and could make your logo look a lot more "profesional". I'm talking about layer blending modes, a commonly unused feature.
I taked the freedom to recreate you diamond experimenting with blend modes. The file and its layer organization has not much sense and it could be improved a lot, since it was made just by trial and error.

you can download the anme file here

I hope to help

Wow! You help me a lot! This is what I was looking for initially, but I wasn't able to figure out how to do! I don't know what I can do or not with AS yet, plus until a few months, I never took digital drawing seriously, so I have a huge world to discover yet. I will study the file!
Thanks!

Selgin, I can't believe how you can get AS to do anything! This is just like using layers in Photoshop! Thanks for the file.

Uolter, sometimes the client's ideas don't make for good design.

I'm happy you like it! blending modes are amazing, it's just about test and test and test. Sometimes I simply put a rectangle with a colored gradient above a character and play with blend modes to see how it react on render, you can get very nice effects just testing! (remember you can mask the rectangle, if you don't want to scape from the character limits)

:D you are welcome, neeters. I actually started playing seriously with blending modes after playing with AfterEffects. I saw that several of the things you can do with AE actually can be made in AS. Which is great, because you have a lot more control on the animation of that blending effects. Anyway, we still composing with AE, it's obviously designed for a different task of what AS is designed and make awesome its work, but it's nice to send the characters from AS as complete as possible and, more important, as controllable as possible.
Some days ago I wrote a little thread about, you can visit it here, if you want

This is really a cool feature I have to go deeper, sometimes I tryed randomly blending modes without knowing its use, always obtaining black shapes  . I don't remember now if I missed to read something in the guide, but I really wasn't aware of how to use it so I decided to leave it for the future. I have to learn how to use masking feature too. I didn't understand well how it works, but I saw there's a huge explaining thread :D , anyway I want to try one thing at time for a better understanding. Thank you again!

I agree with you neeter (hey, saw your cover arts...very beautiful!), this is more a simple drawing than a logo. I know logos are different, I did some when I was in academy. I remember something like this (this is a quick sketch):
Image
Recently I did the one I use as avatar even if It not conviced me so much.
Truth is I'm not very good with this stuff, my teacher always said that I was for workshop signs instead..."but no one need them now!" :?
I'm doing this just for fun and because they're friends, and I will not get any money. Initially I was asked to make a simple flyer with a cartoon drawing, but later they asked me to make something with this kind of dice. This is what came out...maybe a real graphic designer can do it more better, but I spent most of my life in expressionist paintings or pastel drawings (I love Degas)so this is the best I can do...
However that, I've been involved in music scene for about 15 years, lot of bands don't like logos and prefer drawings, like hardcore bands often choose old school tattoes style(which I like very much)...well I think I'm going nowhere now, so I quit, but I am so excited I came back drawing so I like to talk about whenever I can...thanks for your kind comment!
