hiding animations in unwanted frames

i am new to anime and having a hard time understanding the masking aspect . i have created my animation using lots of still art work how do i hide layers later in the timeline

Layer properties -> visibility
or
Layer properties -> opacity, for fades and transitions.

Changes you do there should show up in the timeline. If not, look in the timeline settings if the visibility channel is checked.
