Cheap alternatives for Flash

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone could recommend any flash compatible cheap alternatives. Specifically the pencil tool I would seek to replicate. I have a possible job coming up, and this functionality is basically what I would need?

I'm not really sure what it does, but I was told that was the tool needed.

Well I have an idea it's a drawing tool, but I don't know what might be special about it

I haven't used Flash, hence my question

Hm, if you can find some used software of flash in the web, even a little bit older?
Or searching for some older Corel Draw versions, they had once a similar flash tool, but I'm not sure if it was Version 7 or 8.
(You have got Windows, or?)

And it could maybe help what special flash thing is important for you. The animation, the programming, for example: a flash game, or simply the drawing?
The result could be that you need more than one software to get a Flash alternative.

I use Express Animator. Ok replacement to flash. Has demo and cost 40.

I am very surprised that in all the years Flash has been around no one has ever created a competing product. Not a competitor to SWF format but a product that also produces SWF. The only one was that product from Adobe years ago... uh... er... then they bought Flash so no need for it anymore. I bet the people who bought THAT were ticked off.

I remember myself using corel rave. It looked pretty cooler than Flash, until Moho came to my life.

Swishmax is nice but doesn't use true action-script. I use Koolmoves myself and it's only like $50.

If it's just for one job, why not just run with a fully-functional 30-day trial version of Flash? At least for testing purposes to see if it works for you. Many apps support Flash's SWF file format. However, few can compete with Flash's own freehand drawing tools.

Incidentally, those tools haven't changed significantly in years. So you could also look out for demos/second hand copies of Flash 4, Flash 5, Flash 6, Flash MX, Flash MX 2004, Flash 8, Flash CS3 as well as the latest Flash CS4.
