Papagayo Interpolation

Post by wlan »

How do I interpolate the mouth files that I create in Papagayo? I want to make the mouth movement seem smooth.

P.S., I watched all of Darthfurby's work and is there any easier way of head rotation or full body rotation?

Double-click the mouth switch layer and check the box to interpolate sub-layers. Your mouths all have to be setup with corresponding points for this to work. I.e., you need to make one mouth, and then make all the rest by duplicating that layer and moving the points into the shape your looking for. Hope that helps!

Remember that Papagayo doesn't "create" the mouths. You only load "data" into a switch layer in AS that has a list of which layer in the switch to key on a specific frame.

The visual feed back you see in papayo doesn't do interpolation. However that one of AS mouth files that come with papagayo can be imported into AS and used for lip sync or for reference to create your own.

b15fliptop is exactly right. You need to create the mouth shapes in a switch layer correctly for smooth interpolation in AS FIRST before you can see the results of the dat file import.

I get it but I now need to know what mouth shapes I need to make. In the example tutorial, it has A,B,C etc.

Look at the example mouths (stored in the Mouths directory) that come with Anime Studio for the ones you need. They are based on the Preston Blair series (which you can Google for more examples).

Thanks very much. I just purchased a book called get animated by Tim Maloney. Though it is good, it may have content not suitable for children. It has many things listed on how to do but it does not go that much into depth about head turns. I watched some Fox Animation (C) shows and does anyone have any idea how they are able to do such complex body maneuvers like head turns and body rotations so many times? I understand that most of them use ToonBoom (C) but is their any way I can do it in such an easy form on anime studio pro 5? It took me 4 hours to make a smiley face rotation.

wlan don't take this the wrong way, but IMHO it was 4 hours well spent. Your best bet, if you want to work out how to do head rotations, is to sit down and do some. You might do better than me, I usually butcher things the first 2 times but learn a lot, and then by about the 3rd try can sit down and use what I learnt to put together something passable.

Or do a head turn which you're not thrilled with, save it and sleep on it, and go back in tomorrow and start cleaning it up, looking at timing and so on.

Run a search on "head turn" in this forum, track down Darth Furby's head turn w action video tute (and whatever other advice) and have a read when you need a break from working in AS.

There's no quick fix IMHO.
Or I guess it would sound something like this:
"Use a combination of actions, "putty" shapes and hand tweaking point motion to move through several key poses for a gorgeous head turn."

But putting that into practice boils down to rolling up your sleeves and giving it a shot.

Don't lose heart on the 4hrs you spent on a smiley face rotation, I imagine you would have learnt a lot doing it, or at least familiarised yourself a lot with working in AS on animation.

Good luck

EDIT: sorry just re-read thread and I see that you've watched Darth Furby's tute. In that case, make it your own. (He's teaching tools, not a strict workflow.)

If you have Anime Studio version 6, check out selgin's experiments with head turns using blend morphs:

viewtopic.php?t=13528

Basically you create 1-frame actions with your head in various poses, and the blend morph will let you change from one pose to another in a snap.

If you're using AS 5.6 then consider this another vote for Darth Furby's method. :D
