Heya,
Was just wondering how a 2.5D animation with AS would look. I've done some prelim tests previous to this years ago, but just wondered again how it'd work. I think with some planning you could probably get decent results. I think I need to break into 3D somehow.
As you may know AS has a quasi-3D engine...it'd be great if it were a fully functional 3D engine capable of shadows...ooh yay. I can get far more control over a scene with straight 2D animation, but there's something intriguing about this 2.5D possibility.

Anyone do anything similar before?
Silly 2.5D test

Mikdog make all his characters on photoshop, if I remember well, then import the images to AS. So there are at least two softwares involved.DK wrote:Hey Mikdog. Nice

I have used this technique several times for simple deepness movements on some characters or objects (also on backgrounds, of course), but never so freely as your test. I think that if AS would have 3d bones it would be fantastic, but with the current limitations there is not much fancy work you can do.
Have a look at my hello jelly post mikdog

You will see some of the limitations and bugs I found trying some of these techniques.
There is great potential here, but it's easy to find yourself just out of reach of some awesome results.
Let us know if you break ground here.
