Animated shape shading

Is it me or does it seem a little impractical that you can animate the shading of an entire layer but not the shading effect that's applied to an individual shape within that layer? I just found this out -is there a existing script which allows for the animation of the shading effect applied to shapes?

That should be possible, since shading effect is one of the few we do have scripting access to. But it would have to be a layer script, which would mean naming the shapes. Also we'd have to used some funky method to store the animation, and doing different shading animations for several shapes would be a nightmare.

Personally, I don't see thsi getting done anytime soon. Perhaps the next version will have much better scripting access.

I'm coming to this situation from a compositor's standpoint: I've worked for some years with After Effects; it seems odd to me that the layer effects can be keyframed and animated but the shape effects cannot. I hope that in version 6 this is addressed.
