what I have been working on FOR FREAKING EVER

Post by basshole »

Ok, guys, you've seen me around here posting annoying N00B style questions, and now you get a little something back.

A little background:

Seven years ago I made this short film:

(it's claymation if that encourages you to take a look)

And now I'm working on a sequel after several false starts. HEre's a demo with some of the characters (I can't show you my awesome super villain 'cause he/she/it is just to cool and your brains would melt. And I want it to be a surprise. )

Now, having seen some of the work you guys have done, I know it's lightyears ahead of what I've accomplished here, but I still think all this turned out really well vs. what I was aiming for when I first started.

Each character has a front and 3/4 view, and I'd say each character (at least in their 3/4 view--I estimate the using the front views very sparingly) has about 80-90%--maybe more if you can stand weird vector deformations and lines that stop matching up--range of motion (for all limbs/digits) of an actual human (excluding sexy contortionists), which was more important that making everything look super pretty, to me. I know some of the perspectives aren't quite kosher (hah!), and the male characters who are NOT super heroes look bulkier from the front view than they do from the side, but I've decided to let it go in the interest of maybe getting this finished this year.

I still have to design their weapons and all the objects they interact with, and then the set, and then record the voice actors, and then I can finally start animation in earnest.

Oh yeah, so you're like "so how long'd this take there, basshole?, a week or somethin'?" No, you jerks! I've been freaking working on this since the freakin beginning of last year. Not the animation part. . .the character design/rigging. the animating took a couple of days, a "day" being two or three hours.

Just for fun, Vern, how long would it take you to design all these characters (just imagine one more you don't get to see right now), two views each, with all this movement possible? I'd guess a month. Maybe.

Could you maybe post it somewhere else for those of us who don't want to sign up for facebook just to see it?

Great claymation though.

Yes, I am sorry. I didn't think about that. In my mind, facebook was like youtube where anyone can look at it. I realize this is wrong.

HERE'S THE LINK FROM MY PERSONAL SITE. NO SIGNING UP FOR ANYTHING.

Also on youtube. This is less than half the filesize of the one on my site and may stream faster. Still HD, albeit 720.

Looking good. I really like some of the action (like flipping off the wall). It could really use some backgrounds though.

I thought the whole thing could take place in a grey void, sort of a comment on humanity's futility.

Or I just haven't gotten to the backgrounds yet.
