Too many "stickies" in the scripting forum?
Quick question. Does anyone think all the stickies in the scripting section is inconvenient in viewing new posts? Does it seem like it's getting overloaded with stickies?

Maybe there could be one sticky with links and short headings/descriptions or links organised by function?
I think it could be a bit tricky for newcomers to get what is going on with the script side of things, I know it was for me.
There are still many tools and scripts from eras gone by that I have never tried, they might be great but there is such a script soup that it's just a little unfathomable.

ignorant inquiry
out of dumb curiosity,
what exactly is a sticky?

Re: ignorant inquiry
Stickies are topics at the top of a forum section that never "move". They stay at the top so they don't "get lost" over time. What would happen is that some topics that contained links to useful scripts that had no activity would end up "lost" or at least hard to find so by making them "sticky" they are easy to locate.toonertime wrote:out of dumb curiosity,

However stickies take priority on the page and too many will push all the recent topics down. I don't view new posts that way anymore. Since I started using the link for "view new posts since last visit" I was not aware that the stickies might be an issue for some people with smaller monitors. Someone asked me about it so I decided to see what the general consensus was.
Personally I don't think it is an issue. When I view only new posts I don't actually see the main category sections unless I'm looking for an old thread. It was difficult to find some old script threads from members like 7feet or Fazek, who have stopped contributing to the forums. Posting those links for new users is so much easier to just say "go to the top of the scripting category".

Speaking as someone who visits this forum only once or twice every couple of weeks, it is kind of hard to keep up with the scripts. What might be more helpful is if AS had a website devoted to a plugin data base, like flay.com is for Lightwave, or Highend3d.com is for maya and max and xsi. I'd host a wiki myself but my hosting is done for free by a friend, so I'm loathe to use up his good will. If someone would host a wiki, I'd certainly help linking it to script pages, and it would allow us to search scripts by categories and key words.

Hey, good idea! I keep thinking it would be links to the actual scripts that would need to be updated or changed. It never occurred to me to have a LOCKED thread with links to the TOPICS that are maintained by each person who created the scripts <vern slaps forehead>synthsin75 wrote:I don't have any problem with the 'stickies', but I do like Selgin's suggestion. Perhaps a 'locked' sticky thread that just includes a list of topic names and links.

Apparently it has for some people who check the forums with laptops or smaller monitors.I like how it is now, but if it ever were to grow to fill the whole first page, that would be annoying.

Check out the "new" script "sticky!
Forum member scripts
It's very basic, no "categories" since that would be hard to do with how the topics are set up. At least it is easy to find all of those scattered threads without to much trouble. And now the script forum isn't full of stickies taking up all the screen space.
Let me know what you think.

That's cool and clear. I think you might update it as well as you find more useful scripts. I think that there are a couple more that are missing.
Maybe:
-Rilleman? He has got a webpage wit some scripts (useful I think) http://www.rylanderanimation.se/moho.htm
-Ramón López? His scripts are lost in the forum but some of them have been a hit (specially the lipsync with actions).
-Hosamalaraby: I think this guy has passed unadvertised but he offered all his scrips here:
viewtopic.php?p=55961#55961
There are others I think: remember a script that does key all the channels in the time line (whom was it from?)

Do you have these scripts? Anyone have these scripts? The link in that thread to download the scripts is dead. Maybe it will come back maybe not. I can put them on my server so at least they won't get lost.Genete wrote: -Hosamalaraby: I think this guy has passed unadvertised but he offered all his scrips here:

I like it. Much cleaner looking scripting section.
Vern, I have that RAR posted by Hosamalaraby, but it is just his collection of scripts. I think all of these scripts are included in the collection in this post:viewtopic.php?t=10551
That's a pretty good collection. Perhaps another locked sticky could be made to point out these collected scripts (if their links still work).
I do think the 'Forum member scripts' topic should remain dedicated to members who have created a significant number of scripts. I would agree that Rilleyman has enough to be included, but like the others, it be nice if he collected all of his scripts (with usage info) into one topic. (Updating the first post, like the rest of us)
That way we could maintain a kind of standard that would keep these links easy to use.
Just my two cents.

Good ideas Synth. I will leave it as is for now with the name of the script creator and links to threads or web sites depending on how they set it up. Maybe later on I can look at this again for further improvements.
NO MORE STICKIES. I think there should be just one locked thread with links to all the scripts without any other posts or clutter. That is what happened with me... I kept adding new stickies and got carried away.
There are other more powerful forum applications with more features for this type of thing. Who knows what the future holds.
p.s. That link worked. I downloaded that script package and will see what's in there.
