Making a Mii in AS

Post by jhbmw007 »

My first attempt of making a Mii character in Animii Studio.

I used DK's 3d head trick for the rotation. Not really sure what I'm going to use this for... I was bored.

I love the 3D look you got there. Is the specularity just a white spot with edge blur?

Well I figured out a use for this character, here's the animation:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=fSLNXJMwCFQ

DK: Yes the "shine" is just a slightly transparent white oval with soft edge over top the face, however it is not bound to the face bones. I was trying to figure out how I could animate a Mii, even considered trying a 3-d program, but with your head rotation setup it turned out pretty good in AS- thanks!

Since the design is so simple, it will be very easy to modify him into a new character. Thinking about doing a series of celebrity Mii animations... hehe.

toonertime: It's an animated gif, hotlinked from my photobucket account. AS doesn't output animated gif, so you need a software that can create gifs from image sequences.

That's probably an animated gif....just use the normal
and it should work.

How did you set up your lip-sync?

I used the action based .dat import script that is available somewhere on the forum here (heyvern's script). All aspects of the head are on the same layer. A switch layer mouth would not be possible here due to the fact that DK's boned-based head turn requires the points be bound individually to the bones.

I figured it was the action lip-sync script. Looks nice.

are you using heyvern's script or ramón's script?
Heyvern wrote: Forum member Ramón López had created the same script a while ago which I never knew about. It has more features and error checking and can be downloaded from this thread:

It is the linked word "Here" in the last post.

I'm using Heyvern's version:

But I guess they both made the same script so I don't know who to give credit to lol.

It is possible to parent a mouth switch layer to one of the bones, you have to make a horizontal bone as the scale bone with a small verticle bone parent at te end as the master operator for the switch layer.

Here's a sample file of how you could attach a switch layer to the 3D head turn via layer parenting.

Ah so it does. Do you think there's anyway to map your 3d bone rig to an image/photo of someone's face? I was reading a post here about Crazytalk and it made me curious...
