This is the original article I found on "elastic" design:

http://jontangerine.com/log/2007/09/the ... s-with-css

This is sweet! A little javascript page with settings to change the base pixel size. Read the article to understand why this is needed.

Thanks Vern,

The article was a good read. Now if only background images could scale,
sigh well we will have to wait for CSS3.

Originally I planned to have the header graphic tile horizontally... but this will do until CSS3 gets finalized... if ever. It's been years it seems. ;)

Great link. I always thought it was "made up" text that simulated proper word length and sentence structure. It actually means something! Great. Don't let my clients find out.... they will proof read it and make changes. ;)

Hold the CTRL key and use the scroll wheel on your mouse!!!!!! The page enlarges and shrinks!!!
That's it man. This is the holy grail of web design for me. No looking back.

Did you know that on a Mac you always could do that with any page,
using the >option<>command< >8< then >option<>command< >=< or <-> thats equal or minus.

PS: On my Mac the control plus the scroll wheel only scrolled my screen. :?:

I only tried the CTRL scroll wheel thingy in fire fox.

That "zoom" feature on the mac is a "hardware" monitor zoom. The zoom of a web page I'm using is enlarging the font size.

Cool! I found a shortcut to change the contrast... I never knew about that one.

I found another trick but I'm not sure if it's just "too much".

So enlarging the text size scales the whole page right? What if you could just do that "automatically" based on the width of the browser window? So if the window is enlarged the page will automatically zoom to fill the width.

It works great using a small Javascript. Also the user activated changing of the text size still works

Here is a sample:

http://www.vernsworld.com/anime_studio/index3.html

Just resize the window and the page auto scales to fit.

WooHooo! I'm having fun! This is hard work but I'm enjoying it.

A while back I started keeping a sort of file on my hard drive with copies of my tips and techniques but I wasn't always faithful in keeping it up to date.

Since I started the web site design I wanted to make sure I got everything possible to put in it. So I did a search for all of my posts in tips and techniques and I am reformatting for the new web site. It's going very well. All the images and movies and samples are linked in the posts to where I uploaded them.

I should have at a minimum, a rough set up with some tutorials in a few days.

I was surprised that I found several Flash tutorials in there. I found the template I used and may use that format for others. Wait and see.

I recommend that anyone else who posts techniques try this sometime. Just search for your user name in tips and techniques and sort by username. You can then go through and copy/paste or save the threads. Get everything in one place.

Hey, I just discovered that if I open the view source on your web page and then (on a Mac) print as a PDF file and save it I have your source in PDF form to study. COOL! Now i'll be as smart as you. :P

I've been doing that for years! ;)
The technique it isn't original to me anyway. I got the idea from an article on elastic web design.

Did you check the most recent version with animation?
http://www.lowrestv.com/anime_studio/

I stuck an animated gif inside the header image.

Ha ha! No, this isn't English -- it's a kind of "dog Latin" that typographers use so that they can get some impression of what text would look like. It's just meaningless stuff...
You can't have everything. Where would you put it?
