Selectable Line Ends

Post by Rhoel »

One of the byproducts of the High Def testing is the discovery that some line junctions show gaps and sharp line endings. This can be caused by three line joining at one point, with on line hidden (where a heck area joins a body area for instance)

It is desirable to have the choice of how a line ends, either chisel ended or rounded. In the case of rounded, the radius should be anchored a the line end (ie, it extends beyond the end of the line).

I dd some tests in another vector program with this feature and it solved the odd algorithm gaps you get on angled line junctions.

This diagram explains it better.

You can emulate rounded corners using a circle brush. It takes more time to render but it should work.

That is how I resolved this on a recent short. I am not sure this will always work in HD/2K/4K.

Having the option of the round ended line is a simpler option.

Having looked at the sketchy line tool, I am still in favour of this rounded end option.

The reasons are mainly because the sketchy line tool
  • has a limit of 8 radius - line widths exceed this.
  • makes the entire line soft focus. This is not a gripe as Sketchy is not trying to only round the ends - round ends are just a by-product.
  • , you may not want to have rounded ends on everything.
